WE LOVE AFTER WE LOSE ….

It's been five years and I have not heard from her , she is turning into a vivid memory . It's sometimes very funny how somebody can impact your life in a very little way .Back in my boarding school when we had only friends looking out for each other because our parent’s weren't physically there , she would be the first one to jump around if anybody had any ailment, it could be just a sneeze and she would get all worked out and appear with medicines and start suggesting what needed to be done . She became that mother a child misses when he gets sick . We would funnily joke about her maternal instincts and we started calling her ‘mummy’ . Today India is suffering because of the second wave of COVID-19 and I just can't seem to even know if she is doing okay or not .

She spent 12 years of her life with me at boarding and this whole time we were never very close , of course we had a ton of memories but I did not do justice to the kind of person she was . On the day before my final 12th board exam she wept inconsolably saying she would miss me . I jokingly said that I wasn't going anywhere and we can always keep in touch . It's been more than five years and I haven't heard a word from her since . She is out there in the world fighting and striving hard to achieve her dreams .

The reason I decided to write this story was because I miss somebody from my past who deserved appreciation and my time then and I didn't really know it then . Sometimes certain things can't be shared and most of the time it's not understood . Here I am writing this so people would appreciate their loved ones a little more and remind them how much they matter . I guess we humans are made that way , we learn to love after we lose .
